Getting ready to pull the trigger on another kit or two. I am a firm believer you get what you pay for so I have been ordering the Mosti Meglolio kits or at least the All Juice Master Collection.

Where here comes my question ... I was browsing THIS and I can't find the word Mosti anywhere in the document. It makes me re-think my strategy.

Am I missing something?

Hey Rick, Mosti is just not as big or available in as many places as RJS, Winexpert and CC. They make some very good high end kits so I have heard but I can't bring myself to pay that kind of bucks. I am quite happy with the CC Showcase and LR kits when available and I would not hesitate to make any of the RJS Winery series of kits as well.

Those awards can be misleading as there is no limit to the amount of entries you can submit per winemaker as long as you pony up the $25 entry fee per wine you can submit a 100 wines. If your LHBS only sells Winexpert then (as many only seem to sell ) guess which manufacturer is going to have the most entries and skew the resultant winnings just based on total possibilities of winning......

Mosti is one of the smallest of the kit makers, and as a result very few Mosti kits make it into the Winemaker Mag contest. Also, many of us have become quite dissatisfied with their results. I have made many Meglioli and Masters Edition kits that I am quite proud of, but have never entered the contest.

Thanks Mike and Peter ...

I felt like I was sticking to my plan ... try a few kits, wait and see if we liked them, if yes-keep a few kits going for us and a few close friends.

Currently we are drinking a MM Meglioli Riesling and MM Riserva Gewurztraminer and they are two of the best whites we ever had. I know you thinkI'm suppose to say that ... it really is true.

oh and by the way ... thanks for your help on the free sulfite testing, I have a lot of glassware and chemicals on the way. I believe even kit manufactures go heavy on SO2 to be safe.

Totally agree on the sulfite amounts. I followed the guide in the instructions my first year and every one of my wines had a wonderful bouquet of sulfite......

I add the pack of sulfite now and that's it even up to 6 mo bulk aging. Plenty of SO2 is still available at least for reds, whites may need a little hit.

Mosti kits have been hit and miss with me as well. Especially the AJ's. Have had much better consistency with the Renaissance kits myself.
