My biggest problem now is tilting the carboy and keeping the tip of the cane submerged without stirring up the lees.

To keep the carboy tilted, I use one of these:

I use a one foot-long 1"x2" piece of wood to prop up one side of the carboy.

My pump is almost 10+ years old at this point and still going strong! Worth every penny!

This is not uncommon - These pumps are made to last - that is why they are thermally protected. If you are having any issues - I can always rebuild your pump no matter of the age.
