Exactly. Professionals don't allow bleach in the winery, for good reason.

I find that Oxyclean works well with no problems.

I have had discussions with several professional winemakers who do use bleach for some cleaning purposes. However, it is always followed by five or six rinses with clean, bleach free water.

It can be used, but requires extreme care, probably more than most home winemakers should consider doing.

Thanks for the update.

My go to is also Oxiclean but only the one with the green lid. It is chlorine and perfume free. The wineries I am familiar with use soda ash which is mainly sodium carbonate with citric acid. I believe Oxiclean is primarily sodium percarbonate. I've been seriously considering soda ash since it is so cheap.

Oxyclean is a good product. I use it often for stubborn stains around the house.

I use "Oxyclean" on occasion on wine bottles and ONLY when any other of my methods do not work. I don't find any problems either, but .....

To add to this discussion and as an FYI to others, the term OXYCLEAN is more of an product name or line of products (see attached). Once reading through the MSDS's on the company's disclosure page, I think you'll find "oxyclean" is not the same across the board. https://churchdwight.com/ingredient-disclosure/default.aspx

I view it with the same caution as using chlorine bleach when it comes to wine. The components listed are not meant to be in wine, much less ingested.

IMHO, if I were in business of making and selling wine, Oxyclean would be banned along with bleach and chlorine products. Just my .02 cents

Barry
