We just love to help here and there are a few other hobbies included on this site such as beer making, woodworking, computers, and even hunting and fishing along with some cheese makers too. Pretty much what ever you need to know there is someone here that could help you out in that aspect. A great place to come!

can i make a big batch of sanitizer say a 5gal. bucket and use what i need keeping a lid on the bucket when not in use, or do i have to make a fresh batch every day

I would use 1 gallon jug, or 1/2 gallon jugs. The stuff will last about 3-4 months. Just take a light whiff before using, don't directly inhale it, but waft it with your hands up to your nose. If you still smell sulfur, your good. 5 gallons would be a lot to make for small guys like you and I. You can also put some in spray bottles for easy use.

wished i had known that sooner. i have been mixing 1 or 2 gallons at a time and putting it into my primary, washing everything before and after i use it and dumping it all out each day.

Every now and again I buy a gallon of Carlo Rossi wine (its cheap <$10) and drink it but also for the jug. I clean them well with oxiclean and then rinse it well. I spray a little sanitizer in it and cap it off with either a bung or its cap. They are excellent for doing 1 gallon batches when you want to experiment, as well as mixing your sanitizer in.

I made a cork humidor out of a 6 gallon bucket and keep a gallon jug of sanitizer in there with corks all around it with a sealable lid on it that keeps my corks moist and sanitized and all serves to keep my sanitizer good with the closed lid (2 uses in 1) and I also keep a spray bottle handy also and they both last about 3 months.
