I saw the recipe for Skeeter pee and it calls for sparkolloid. This stuff seems neat but I am wondering why no one mentions it and why it doesn't appear in more recipes.

Many use sparkolloid and is great for clearing red wines. I use it for my whites and fruit wines too.

There is a wide variety of choices when it comes to fining. All a matter of personal choice as to if you want to use them. Personally, I have never had to add the sparkolloid to my Skeeter Pee, it always clears on its own. In fact, I do not add fining agents to wines in general. The exception is bentonite prefermentation with pear or peach. (and of course if provided in kits I follow the directions). But yes, sparkolloid is great stuff..so is isinglass and SuperKleer, especially if you run into something that simply will not clear with proper bulk aging.

That's wonderful. So no one has had an issue with the sparkalloid removing flavor or removing body or removing something from the wine that I am going to wish later was there?

The primary reason Sparkolloid was the fining agent of choice for my Skeeter Pee recipe is that it was designed to be a beverage made in MASS QUANTITIES at low cost. Sparkolloid does the trick very nicely, stores well, and it economical.
