If you read my earlier post http://www.winemakingtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13916 you know why I am apprehensive about starting another kit today. Starting the RJS Cru Select Limited Release, Toro Tempranillo Grenache. This kit is at my son's request, he loves Spanish wines and this one is said to be made in some special style "Crianza style" that he particularly likes. I am using a primary bucket with a spigot but will be extra careful not to bump the spigot. So wish me luck this time around.

Ive been using spigots since I started making wine on my primary and have never had more then a few drips when I start the wine and then it seals itself fine. I think that lest batch could have still been fermengted just fine. There are actually many people who dont even cover there wine with anything and totally open ferment it and never have a problem. I myself like the idea of being ultrasafe and not risking anything but if that were my wine in that tote I would have continued and seen what happened with it.

Good luck Tony, I have been using the 7.9G Primary with spigot for 2 years now. I made the one mistake you only make once early on (pouring the juice in with the spigot in the open position......) Lost a cup or two but learned a good lesson.

I'm with Wade I would have poured the juice in a good bucket and let her go till it showed me it was good or bad in some way. C'est la vie.
