    Steel Tank, Floating Lid Gasket

My inline shutoff was purchased at my LHBS. It is used for gas in a keg setup. One side goes in the bladder stem the other in the tubing to the pump. Using two clamps set opposite each other I connect the parts. I purchased a couple of plastic ones from Cynmar. To date I have not used them...

    Steel Tank, Floating Lid Gasket

I would first check the connection points (where the hose attaches to the pump and where the hose attaches to the gasket). I use small ring-clamps to ensure that the seal is tight. If these are ok, then I would proceed as suggested by runningwolf. I now use two clamps set 180 degrees from...

    10% so2

I think this thread is clouding the topic. My suggestion is to read Ben Rotter's article on SO2 on his web site: brsquared.org. For instance the 5 ppm and 8 ppm red/white suggestion sounds like the .5 and .8 ppm of molecular SO2 mentioned in his article and other charts. Once you settle on...

    10% so2

What's suggested is a 10% solution of K2S2O5. The SO2 percentage is 5.7%. The answer is probably what you were seeking. I only point it out to caution against loose terminology. Either can be used. Just like NaOH strengths for titrations. You just need the correct formula.

Ideal equipment for 550 case winery

How many different wines and in what quantities will you make? Determining your needs will be largely dependent on what you make, the time you are willing to commit, and what you know. MoreWine's catalog shows the trade off winemakers can make as they scale up - mainly cash versus time and...

    Cleaning wine area (bleach Alternative)

I have been using a quaternary cleaner to clean my wine space each year. Mine is a bulk product from Ecolab. I know it is made as a rtu product by other manufacturers. I don't think there are negative consequences. But I offer it for comment. I use it in healthcare facilities for protection...

Cellar construction advice needed - vapor barriers

Just reread my post. To clarify: the voids I refer to are the between the 2x4 wall on the inside. I have over 4 inches of foam insulation on the inside. There is a trade off between cooling and insulation. For me it was easy. Cooling is more costly and I started trying to create a passive...

Cellar construction advice needed - vapor barriers

I have a poured in place under grade wine cellar. I paid to have it designed and the refrigeration specified. The walls are 8 inches. Waterproofed on the outside and then 2 in EPS stuck to the outside. In the inside, we framed up a 2x4 wall , installed power and drain lines and then sprayed...

    Grapes vs Must

For estimation, I assume 10 gallons of must for 100 lbs grapes and 7 gal of wine post pressing. As was said before the condition of the grapes and the varietal influence the volumes. I add an extra 10% to my additive purchase. I just don't want to run out or not have what I need.

    when to add more sugar?

If you are going to add sugar, go ahead and do it now - definitely well before you finish primary. Do Blueberries benefit from a secondary fermentation? If you are only looking for an 11.5% alcohol, be careful wit your addition. The P.A. for 1.080 is close to 11% alcohol. This assumes you...

SO2 level management - Best practice?

I'm aware of at least three principle methods of measuring FSO2: Ripper, Aeration and Oxidation and capillary electrophoresis. The last I only know from reading. The first two are widely used in winemaking. Variants of Ripper include the the basic test and packaged tests like titrettes, and...

    Vadai barrell goes smelly

You've added about 185ppm of SO2 to your wine. To me that's a good amount and FSO2 has not stabilized. You are probably fine. I would caution you to follow it closely and watch out for VA. It's binding with something.

Hole is dug for our new wine cellar

You've invested a lot. Before moving forward with anything short of a simple cheap try, I suggest hiring an engineer to evaluate the heat load and make suggestions. You'll probably save time and money.

Hole is dug for our new wine cellar

Have you considered spray foam insulation on the inside? The r value is incredible for the time and money and it solves most vapor issues. I installed a wine cellar in a poured wall basement 15 years ago. I planned to add refrigeration, but wanted to minimize the btu's required. I framed up...
