This is going to sound like a loaded question but I am looking to up my game. I am looking for recommendations for a cabernet Sauvignon. It is not necessarily my favorite but it is sooooo asked for that part of me would like to make a reasonably priced one..about $120.00 is that possible?
the second question is from whom would I buy the kit from.

My follow up would be a good red dry wine, full bodied with an oak finish?
Same as the above.

Thank you.
Corinth:

PS: I have heard a lot of people talk about the Cellar craft showcase red mountain Cabernet Sauvignon but that (at present is out of my price range) or is it?

The Red Mountain Cab is currently $141 at FineVineWines. They are having a 10% off sale, which would get you down to about $136, but then you have to at $10 for shipping. I know that is over your price target, but I highly recommend that kit.

Spagnols Winery Series has a Cab/Shiraz that is $121, plus 10% off but I have not tried it.

I have made the Red Mtn Cab 2 years in a row & can't recommend it enough! It just keeps getting better. Our "house Cab" is a Home Winery Cab that we custom blend to suit our tastes, aprox $45 for 5 gals, $ drinkable in 6-9 months! Roy

Since you live in LA, is there a local winery you can buy a bucket of grapes at a reasonable price?

If you lived in Milwaukee or Minnesota, the premium kits can be had for $120.
NorthernBrewer has a 20% off sale on the Monday after a Packer or Vikings win. So, a $180 kit is $144. But wait, there's more. NB frequently offers $25 bonus on $100 gift card purchases. If you use the gift card, the next price is $120.

Yes, so deals can be had, but you have to look hard for them.

The Cellar Craft Showcase Walla Walla Cabernet-Merlot is cheaper and I like it better than the Red Mountain Cab. You may also take a look at the Cellar Craft Sterling Line of kits. They have a California Cabernet that comes with a grape pack for only $88 plus $10 shipping. Also check out one of our sponsors Brew And Wine Supply. They are having a 10% sale this weekend. You have to enter the code "Friday" at checkout.

Mike, how about the CC Walla Walla Cabernet Merlot.

Good catch, Varis. I believe this is what Mike (and, by extension, I) meant. There is no such thing as CC Yakima Cab-Merlot, only the Walla Walla kit you refer to. (In our defense, Walla Walla is not very far from the Yakima Valley.)

Ok.
I've been eye balling that Walla Walla based on your recommendations.

I made the Walla Walla Cab/Merlot last spring based on Mike's recommendation. I was skeptical that it would be better than RM cab, but I'm a believer now. It's still very young but I'm convinced it will be spectacular in a year or two.

(other) Cabernet sauvignon kit

Hoping that the northern brew cones through and looking at the Walla Walla Cabernet Merlot. Also looking the the $99.00 cellar craft sterling cab for $99.00
Anybody else is welcome to add their opinion.
Thank you all.
Corinth.
PS: The Red mountain cab looks real good bbut is out of my price range right now during the holidays.

IMHO, if you are not local to NB, you should check the typical online places for their black friday sales. The all-in cost, including shipping, might be better.

One of the forum sponsors, George at finevinewines.com, currently has a 10% kits sale going. For $30 shipping I just ordered 4 kits (including the CC Walla Walla Cab-Merlot). My other favorite online retailer is Doug at brewandwinesupply.com. They both have the best prices and service of any related online retailer, hands down, in my experience.

Ibglowin,
I looked at the sterling calif. Cab for about $100.. I join the "club or registered and that brought it down to another $10.00 and if you buy over a $100.00, you get a $10.00 discount and on your birthday month, you get a 5% discount...shipping is $9.00 so by the end of the month, I will purchase it over the phone to make sure I got all my ducks in a row. I might end up saving big bucks. It does come with a grape pack.

Thanks. i will keeep you posted!
